Get The Style You Want For Your Home Here

industrial
Industrial design is recognised by its use of exposed materials such as metal, brick and concrete, and visible bolts and screws. It is governed by the notion that functionality is intrinsic to the aesthetic. Metal production underwent major changes during the Industrial revolution which allowed it to be made with greater ease and efficiency and it therefore became more affordable and prevalent as a result. Today industrial design replicates the style of furniture and fittings that would have been used in industries such as factories and can now be found incorporated into loft living. Come in to J&D and check out our range of industrial lights, fittings and furniture!

retro
The design and décor of the Modernism movement began in the very late 1800s. Birthed by the German Bauhaus schools of design and the Scandinavian design emphasis on simplicity and function, the Modern Style is actually very old despite its name. ''Mid-Century Modern'' design refers to a period in history, it is a design style that was created in the 1920s – 1950s. It is recognisable by its clean, unadorned interiors. Use of natural materials such as wood, glass, leather, teak and linen are prominent. Moulded plywood and plastic are very popular in modern furniture, as well as polished metal. Furniture is slim lined and raised off the floor allowing for an airy feeling. Sometimes this style is referred to as 'Retro' because it harks back to a style of an earlier time that has been revived. This revival means we have loads of new products in the style of Mid-Century pieces also keep up-to-date with our Facebook page to see what authentic Mid-Century treasures we have in store!

shabby chic
'Shabby Chic' was first coined in the 1980s during a period of design which focussed on paint and paint finishes. It describes furniture which is made to show signs of age-related wear and tear by deliberately distressing the piece. The style reflects the type of décor found in large country houses and French cottages. Recycling old furniture and fabrics is an important aspect of the style and was especially popular with Bohemians and artisans. Come in and choose a piece of furniture from our second-hand range to up-cycle with the shabby chic effect or select from our range of new items to achieve the look!
